Lehigh University Business Intelligence Analyst in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Summary:

The Business Intelligence Analyst provides development and support for the reporting needs related to data services provided by the Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics. The successful candidate will design, test and generate reports, dashboards, scorecards, and visualizations that support decision making to meet the strategic and management needs at all levels of the University. The Business Intelligence Analyst designs and implements training materials and solutions that allow users to be more self-sufficient in their ability to obtain information and make data-driven decisions.

Accountabilities:

  1. Provides development and support to meet the reporting needs related to the goals of Institutional Research and the Strategic Analytics initiatives; provides reliable, accurate, secure and accessible data in the form of reports, scorecards and visualizations that meet the strategic and management needs at all levels of the University
  2. Consulting with stakeholders to determine reporting requirements and translate these requirements into business intelligence solutions
  3. Develops reports using University supported databases, reporting tools and integration software
  4. Develops management tools in support of data-driven decision making, such as dashboards, scorecards and other automated, on-demand information delivery systems
  5. Designs, develops, tests and delivers reports, dashboards, scorecards and visualizations that support decision making and planning
  6. Builds and manages the library of data products and reusable business intelligence assets
  7. Maintains existing data products to maintain accuracy over information life-cycles and changing business need
  8. Collaborates with data stewards, end-users, system analysts, research analysts and functional technologists to understand and translate requirements into operational designs for data products
  9. Develops and maintains Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics platforms for data products and systems; works with Library and Technology Services to determine changes in delineation between an Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics and Library and Technology Services platform
  10. Administering system access for University systems identified as under the purview and administration of the Office of Institutional Research
  11. Continues education regarding new and enhanced system platforms for the purposes of keeping the University at the forefront of business intellegence technology
  12. Works with Library and Technology Services to maintain business intelligence, institutional research and strategic analytics technology and data products
  13. Develops standards, policies and procedures for the form, structure and attributes of the business intelligence tools and systems
  14. Maintaining content, security and reliability standards for such University systems
  15. Develops data/information quality metrics
  16. Provides training and instruction to clients in support of the integrated University and strategic analytics systems and supported software, including visualization and reporting software; provides data literacy education when required
  17. Conducts end-user training on the use of University supported report-writing and visualization tools
  18. Develops and maintains appropriate training documentation and materials
  19. Reviews user and technical documentation to create and update procedures
  20. Assesses client training needs
  21. Instructs users in database, report and visualization design and use
  22. Provides Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics’ Research Analyst and Data Research Scientist with data for analysis; continues education in the service of the goals of Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics; maintains the technical side of the partnership between data retrieval and its analysis; provides limited analysis on smaller data sets; automates Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics data needs for external reporting
  23. Maintains data sets for effective operation
  24. Develops automated data retrieval for the reporting tasks
  25. Assists in advancing the business intelligence services; promotes the use of new and existing University software
  26. Develops one-off data retrieval for the reporting tasks
  27. Provides limited data analysis consistent with quality standards
  28. Develops and maintains the technical side of the relationship with the consumers and analyzers of data
  29. Optimizes the performance of business intelligence tools by defining data to filter and index that add value to the user

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related degree
  2. Three to five years related work experience
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Solid writing ability and organizational skills
  5. Excellent analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  6. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  7. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification

Special Considerations:

  • Periods of high volume/workload may be required for calendar year end; fiscal year end; major software upgrades
  • Occasional evening, holiday or weekend hours
  • Occasional travel to attend conferences
