Position Overview

The Director is charged to develop and administer an integrated advising and student support program utilizing faculty, staff, peer advisors, group advising and self-advising approaches to assist the College of Business & Economics lower division and new transfer students to realize the maximum educational benefits available to them.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the College of Business & Economics' (COBE) 'partnership strategy' for delivering advising, making effective use of faculty, staff and student resources as appropriate. Advises students. Assembles and maintains a comprehensive record of University and COBE resources and policies for student assistance. Serves as a referral point, particularly in the summer months, for all of the COBE's undergraduate departments and/or faculty advisors. Administers and approves Business Minor requests.

  • Manages operation of the Student Services Center. Hires, trains, and supervises secretary, peer advisors and professional advising staff Coordinates with new student and family programs to hire and train faculty advisors to assist at the summer advising/registration program for new and returning students. Develops college-centered presentation for summer orientation program.

  • Develops COBE informational handouts and brochures for freshmen, sophomores, and new transfer students. Disseminates and updates correct and helpful information by means of posters, web site, mailings and other appropriate means. Ensures development of programs and materials for COBB students on majors and careers. Generates and reviews reports on student use of services and satisfaction. Evaluates student issues for possible policy or procedural changes.

  • Coordinates the COBE's undergraduate recruitment functions with university-wide efforts. Participates in university advising, orientation programs, and registration advisory committees, as well as appropriate college committees. Serves as an ombudsman to assure that COBE decision-making adequately reflects student concerns.

Budgetary Responsibility

  • Director is responsible for over $200,000 in operating budget, to include event and employee expenses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 5 years of relevant experience, including 1 year managerial experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field

  • Ability to interpret academic program curricula to provide effective student advising.

  • Basic computer skills, customer service, oral and written communication, and problem solving skills.

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn a student information system.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 5 years experience, including 1 year managerial experience
