Job Summary JOB SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, performs supervisory functions over professional nursing and support staff in an inpatient unit, specialty clinic, or treatment program in various patient care settings. Under general supervision, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all patients. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based policies, procedures, guidelines and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in patient safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. “Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute.”
Minimum Qualifications Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is accredited and satisfies the licensing requirements of the Colorado State Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses. New Charge Nurses hired beginning April 1, 2016 BSN required. Charge Nurses in existing positions are encouraged and not required to pursue a BSN. DH ADN internal candidates may apply if they meet the following three criteria: 1) have been in a FTE 0.8 or higher position for at least two years; 2) currently enrolled in a BSN program; and 3) agree to complete the BSN program within three years from the employee’s start date into the position, if offered the position. Experience: Typically, a minimum of two (2) years of professional nursing experience in a patient care setting. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: . Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements. Skilled in decision making regarding appropriateness of care review, assist with research design planning, and collaborating with Nursing Manager on quality improvement reports. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other internal and external team members to ensure timelines are met. Ability to act as a resource to care team for clinical questions. Able to effectively recruit, develop, and retain care team. Ability to adhere to, comply with and demonstrates support for the mission and values of Denver Health. Ability to ensure confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient’s care. Ability to adhere to Denver Health and departmental attendance guidelines. Ability to ensure all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients/clients to who care/service is being provided. Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient’s status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/ services is being delivered/provided. Ability to complete and maintain clinical competency standards. Certification/License/Registration: Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider Certification/CPR. Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Colorado or a participating compact state. National board certification is preferred and encouraged for Charge Nurses. *Specialty certifications as required/recommended per unit. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
