The company is looking forInstrument Software SME (m/f)to be based inChennai.
Purpose of Role
The Instrument Software SME is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Global Instrument Sizing and Selection Software Suite in Dow. This Software Tool suite is being utilized by Instrument Design Engineering, Instrument Maintenance, Process Automation and Process Engineering.
Knowledge of different Instrument technologies (including sizing and selection of control valves, flow meters, level measurements, pressure installation detail, automated valves)
In-depth knowledge of engineering calculations (engineering unit conversion, thermo-physical properties of fluids, fluid dynamics, numerical computation, etc.)
Basic knowledge of Chemical Engineering and Process Control technologies.
Microsoft Help Workshop for creating online help.
Knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools), Physical Properties Data Set (PPDS) and Aspen software tools.
B asic knowledge of Piping Specifications.
Basic knowledge of international standards (e.g. IEC and ISO).
Basic knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Fault Tree Analysis.
Maintain & support proprietary process instrument sizing & selection software (Propix).
User support & software trouble shooting.
Keep all databases and software documentation up to date (e.g. help files and program related web pages).
Development of new tools and enhancement of existing tools.
Work together with Global Instrument Technology Teams to develop functional and technical requirement specifications and implement this into user friendly software.
Set up and execute software testing procedures for new software developments and enhancements.
Provide training to the users on the instrument software tools around the globe (virtual and face-to-face).
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required. With a focus on Process Instrumentation is preferred.
Master's degree Preferred.
Prefer at least 3 years’ experience in software development in the technical area.
Programming skills in Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic.NET, ActiveX Controls and Microsoft Object Libraries (e.g. ADO, DAO, Excel).
In-depth knowledge of database design with MS Access and SQL.
Fluent in English and with Good Communication Skills (Written and Verbal).
Ability to operate in a remote work environment (teleconferencing, e-mail).
