Job Summary

The Synthetic Environment Group (SEG) Manager leads and manages a team of Synthetic Environment (SE) Developers and Designers. The role includes day-to-day staffing alignment with the SE needs of the Simulation and Training Systems (STS) business unit. Advanced knowledge of visual synthetic environment development is required. A major portion of the role is the technical guidance of, and contribution to, synthetic environment design and development from production through release and sustainment.

The SEG manager leads teams in the development of bids and proposals for synthetic environment development projects, then manages the execution of those projects, and mentors SE leads in doing the same. Strong scope, schedule, and budget management skills are required.

The SEG group manager also acts as Rockwell Collins subject matter expert to external and internal customers. Travel to customer sites for the integration and validation of Synthetic environment databases may be required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Staff Planning:

  • Make team assignments according to member primary skills using staffing center

  • Ensure time recording processes are followed

  • Ensure mandatory training assignments are completed in the LMS

  • Identify team training needs

  • Conduct Performance Reviews:

  • Conduct individual member check-in for career development

  • Perform team talent reviews

  • Annual Salary planning and allocation

  • Conduct position requisitions:

  • Hire new employees, as needed, to meet synthetic environment groups needs

  • Hire and manage contract and subcontract employees

  • Hire and manage intern and co-op employees

  • Lead technical process and standards with peer group managers and technical product managers.

  • Provide direct technical contribution to open projects:

  • Perform scrum master role, as required

  • Provide technical development oversight and management

  • Ensure team is meeting technical requirements

  • Manage team knowledge and ability to develop Rockwell Collins airports

  • Manage the team’s knowledge and ability to develop Rockwell Collins terrain layer components

  • Manage the team’s Knowledge and ability to develop Rockwell Collins Moving models,

  • Advance knowledge of synthetic environment optimization with Rockwell Collins rendering applications,

  • Advanced knowledge and ability to teach Database generation training,

  • Practical knowledge of Image generator operation.

  • Configuration Management of all aspect of the Visual Synthetic Environment development:

  • Peer reviews of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)

  • Third Party Intellectual Property (TPIP) management of source data

  • Version control

  • Data retention

  • In-depth knowledge of the Application Lifecycle Management system (ALM) desired but willingness to learn and apply on the job is required

  • Administrator of Confluence pages for the Group and program development

  • Manage development tasks in Jira

  • Track corrective actions in Jira

  • Track, Risks and Opportunities in JROM

  • Record peer reviews in Crucible

  • Manage automated build creation in Bamboo

  • Manage version control in Subversion, or other approved version control tools

  • Provide input to the Engineering Technical Consistent Process

  • Design and development aspects of the Visual system

  • Build and test

  • Customer support

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline or in the absence of a degree six years of related experience

  • US Citizenship or permanent resident
