Department: Housing*Incumbents may work in all weather conditions and move in and around confined spaces. These positions are building maintenance oriented - not construction. These positions involve lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, bending, stooping, shoveling, and climbing ladders.*

Responsible for outside landscaping and outside snow removal; to include supervising outdoor temporary staff.
Assists journeyman electrician in new installations.
Assists journeyman plumbers in the installation and remodeling of plumbing systems.
Assist with building inspections and testing.
Maintains and repairs panels, circuits, wiring, and related systems and replaces switches, receptacles, ballasts, fuse boxes, heat systems, motors, fans and lights.
Maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures, lavatories, faucets, sinks, tubs, water heaters and water service and drain lines and installs domestic, irrigation, and sprinkler systems.
Maintains and repairs heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment such as air compressors, dryers, stainers, pneumatic and electronic controls and piping systems.
Installs ceramic floor and wall tile, linoleum, plastic laminate and similar products.
Repairs built-up, shake, shingle, and other roofs.
Patches holes in walls using sheetrock, plywood, tile, and plaster and re-glazes windows.
Builds walls, partitions, benches, decks, and tables; sketches from oral instructions and works from drawings to design and build specialty items.
Insures water and steam coils, motors, belts, pulleys, condenser pans, duct work, dampers, and related systems are working properly.
Conducts preventive maintenance on building devices and systems; operates equipment used in building maintenance and repair.
Perform maintenance and installation on door locks/hardware.
Use StarRez system to review and print reports for requests, document what was done, when, etc.
Many of these duties are performed inside occupied apartments and/or residence halls which requires excellent customer service skills, as well maintaining customer confidentiality and trust.
Other duties as assigned.
- Good knowledge of: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance.
- Some knowledge of: HVAC and mechanical systems maintenance; building codes.
- Experience: performing skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance repair; using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work; reading blueprints and schematics.
- Specialty Area. This position requires a valid driver's license.
